Fri Jan 18th 2008 23:24:52: iTunes won't install solution

I have been trying to upgrade to the latest version of iTunes, but without success. I tried various different versions of the installer (7.5, 7.0, 6.0.5 - all available from here) however they all bombed out with the error "the installer encountered errors before itunes could be configured". After some hunting on various forums, I eventually found the solution on the Apple forum - download msicuu2.exe from Microsoft and remove any references to iTunes in the installed programs list. After that, the problem was solved :-)

the solution provided did not work for me. Cleanup utility found no traces of itunes and hence nothing could be cleaned up. Problem remains.

Ditto, looked too good to be true.

I downloaded it and tried to find anything related to itunes and/or Quicktime. Nada.

Worked for me. Remember you have remove everything related to iTunes... quick time and anything with the name apple in it

This seemed to work for me - only after removing all references to i tunes/quick time with the remove program AND running the installer as administrator.

I'm not certain running as administrator is necessary, but I did the successfully time I tried along with the full apple software removal. Now that it's working I'm not going to monkey around with it to pin down exactly which of those efforts actually fixed it.

it worked for me as well!! Damn I thought there was no hope at all... many thanks for the solution!!

Guys, you need to remove anything that has "iTunes" ,"Quicktime", or "apple" on it. and voila!

it worked for me. look for the apple update part too. you can tell it's working because when you start the itunes install again, you see more options.

Hmmm, strange. When I run msicuu2.exe I get a couple of windows and then it runs and gives me no options as to what I can remove. Am I using the wrong download? Gettin a tab desparate.
